Costume return

Halloween is over and so it’s time to put up your Christmas decors. For many of us, Halloween is a time to wear costumes and go trick or treating. It is not widely observed in this part of the globe but I noticed last year that SM had a costume party for kids and before they all gathered at the entertainment area for the awarding ceremony, the kids in costumes hopped from one store to another to trick or treat. Last week I told Ella that I will buy her an orange bucket that she can use to trick or treat. Was planning to let her join since she has some costumes that I have long kept. You know what reply did I get? “Bakit ako sasali, Katoliko ba tayo?” (Why would I join? Are we Catholics?) I can’t help but roll my eyes right then and there. She is right. We are not Catholics and we don’t observe Halloween but don’t get me wrong, I just wanted her to experience it like how my mother let us experience decorating our house with Christmas decors even if we don’t really have the thing called Christmas. I am just so happy that Ella was the one who declined that idea because Donald don’t agree with mine.

Last Halloween, we happen to be at Davao City for my monthly doctor’s appointment and Ella got to see the kids in their costumes trick or treating around the mall. She’s been pretty jealous and won’t stop ranting about why do we not believe in Halloween. I grew up not believing in that either because it’s not only with our religion BUT it’s just lately that Halloween, costumes and trick or treating became popular here in our country. My cousin told Ella to be in Davao again next Halloween so she could join….and although Donald is firm about not letting her daughter join in the party, I was hoping he would consider it next time. I got lots of costumes for Ella in one of the bags in the other room. I always get beautiful costumes from our bale of used clothing from the US and kept almost all of them. But I find a site that sells wide variety of costumes and Ella was pretty much in love with this Aurora Ballerina costume. She so wanted to be in a ballet class like Amanda (Julie’s adorable daughter) and she was asking for this one. Read more… »
