My family went bowling

Yes, we did! Last Saturday was the first time I tried bowling and it’s Ella’s first try too. I was afraid I will just put myself in shame. I imagine myself getting gutter balls from start to finish but Ella was the one so excited about it. She keeps on bugging about when will we go there etc etc while we were still killing the time at the mall before the agreed time. LOL It was actually an activity of the youth group of our congregation. Donald and I are not youth members and Ella and Eman are not either but we just went anyway because we feel we still belong with the group. LOL
We went to Fairlanes along Torres Street and like I expected, it is an old bowling alley without AC and everything MANUAL. I was really surprised to see feet moving behind the pins! Those feet belong to the “pin boys”. Their job is to arrange the pins and collect the balls and they take their seat positioned between the lanes when the game starts. They should be quick if they don’t want their feet to be one of the pins.
Ella looked like a pro in this photo. I was not around when she played but Donald said she I didn’t get the scores. I wish I did. I could copy it easier since it was written in a score sheet. Yes, we write the scores ourselves. Talk about MANUAL.
I see a monitor on Julie’s photos that shows scores and that makes us sooooo behind in bowling. LOL I bowled two games and I didn’t get a strike but was happy I didn’t get much of gutter balls than I expected. LOL I do not know how the bowling balls get back to where the bowlers are but here the “pin boys” drops the balls (6 of them) from their seat and they travel by themselves from there to where we are and that amazed Eman so much! He keeps on screaming and pointing at the balls.

Jeda, one of the member of the youth group, volunteered to hold Eman who was looking at the “running” balls.
Donald said there is a newer bowling alley in NCCC Mall where scoring is automated and balls is bigger. I presume the pins are arranged by a machine too. What we played is duck-pin bowling. We are using smaller pins and smaller balls. I was telling him that the balls I see in Julie’s blog is bigger. So that is what we will gonna use when we go to the newer bowling alley. Probably next week we could drop by there with my sister and BIL. That would be fun!

I’ve heard of duck-pin bowling, but I don’t think there is an alley like that around here.
When you said on my blog that our bowling alley is fancy, I had to laugh… Compared to the alleys in the bigger cities, our bowling alley is grungy and old. We’ve been to some really nice bowling alley’s in Portland and Milwaukie… BUT… Wow! You still have pin boys there! That’s actually kind of cool! I doubt there is any bowling lanes in the states that still use pin boys! (Though there are some old lanes where you still have to keep score yourself).
