Not that I cared less for the victims of typhoon Ondoy, I was meaning to make a post about it but I got sidetracked (let me borrow that word from Julie’s)
with some other stuffs here in the house like laundry needing to get folded, the other room that needs to be organized and the crib that I’ve been wanting to get rid of because it eats up too much of our living room space.
I woke up Saturday morning wondering why the sky is so dark. It rained the whole day and I just thought it was just another normal rainfall since December is just a couple of months away. So we went on with our normal schedule. While we were napping, rain water started coming in through the hole in the wall. It was left open after the owner of the house came to get it before we moved in. I asked Donald to cover it so insects won’t get in the house but he just covered it with three thin sheets of paper
. So I asked Donald to put something to prevent the water to come in. He went outside and fixed it and when he’s done he was drenched so he called Ella to play with him under the rain…their usual bonding moment.
Not until in the afternoon that it dawned on me that it was a major disaster. It was all over the national television and the world news too. Over a couple of hundred people died helplessly from the flood and thousands are still in evacuation sites to take shelter as another typhoon (they called it Super typhoon Pepeng, so we are expecting it to be much more stronger than Ondoy). It was the very first time that it flooded here that bad that some places had flood past their roofs. It was twice the water that drenched the US during hurricane Katrina back in 2005 which was named the costliest hurricane and 5 most dedliest. So just imagine how Ondoy its name. Death toll now climbed to 260 and many are still missing. Lucky are those who had two or three storey houses. Even movie stars didn’t escape the toll it brought but I am very much sadenned by the sight of the poor who lost not just their homes but loved ones.

Joe told me about the typhoon in Austalia… Is this one a different one? (I never watch the news. It’s too depressing.)

I am not so sure but I guess it’s the same. Ondoy has international codename Ketsana.

Kawawa talaga yung mga nabiktima ng Typhoon Ondoy, buti na lang at medyo naka-recover na tayo ngayon. ~
