Time to brag

Yeah, since this is my blog, I have the right to do so. :-) I just want you to see what has become of the stacks of fabric I had last night.

Photobucket

I planned on having 6 different prints and I already did an exact calculation before we left yesterday of the fabric that I needed. But then, I had no idea how it slipped off my mind and only got three printed flannels (which adds to my first two prints) so I was just able to make 5 cloth diapers in different prints. When buying baby clothes, I wanted it to be by half a dozen or a dozen and that is also the same with sewing. I wanted it to be even. That’s an issue with me so I think I will be getting another print when we go to Davao.

I started in the morning, trying to figure out what went wrong with the pattern that I used the other night. I believe I copied the pattern for the small sized cloth diaper but when I am done…..it was way too big for a newborn. So I was asking Donald’s opinion if I can do some adjustments with the measurement. He’s a son of a seamstress and he taught me how to make a sewing machine run. He said it’s perfectly alright to adjust it but before I did, I went to check the site where I got the pattern and found out what I copied is the XL size!!!! :roll:Not it’s not my fault. The author (Megan aka Nutmeg) messed up with the labels (which I still have to inform her because she might not know it yet until this time). The small size was marked as medium size. So after copying the right pattern, I was good to go.

Photobucket

So this is the real small size. It is soooo cute. It even fits with Ella’s doll (Carrot) and that causes me to doubt if Emmanuel could wear it for a month. I guess this could be worn only for the first two weeks so I am planning to sew more medium size.

Photobucket

Since I already bought Velcro yesterday, I was able to make a finished product. I thought making cloth diapers is very hard but I was wrong. I actually enjoyed it. It was so much fun sewing cloth diapers.

Photobucket

I could make twenty-five pieces more out of the fabric that I have which I hope, with being such a big procrastinator, would be all done within 5 days. :-)

Photobucket

Oh I just hope the baby won’t be bigger than her big sister. Ella weighs 6.6lbs when she was born. If Emmanuel weighs the same, his leg would perfectly fit in this hole.

Photobucket

But if not and he would be as big as his parents (Donald and I are both 8 pounds but am glad we grew up like twigs ‘cos we cannot afford even a single weight loss pill), it would still be fine because I can make him dozens more in bigger size. To Megan, thank you so much for sharing this fabulous pattern!

    Hi,
I was wondering what material you used for the soakers or inside of the diapers? Also, is the outside just flannel? If so, do the diapers not leak? Or are you putting a waterproof cover over these diapers? I am looking into sewing my own diapers as well, but am struggeling finding the right materials. (it would be great if you could email me). Your kiddos are adorable by the way!
    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hi,
I will be making diapers for my first grandbaby!!!

I also would like the aswers to Maria’s questions about waterproofing and what materials to use. Did you use an inner lining that is water resistant?
    Thanks

Hi! I would love to know what you used for the inside too! I want to make diapers for our new baby. Can you email me what materials you used and if you are planning to use a cover?

    Thanks, Noelle

Could you e-mail me the same info you e-mailed Maria? I clicked the link for the pattern, going to attempt to save but if you could attach that too it would be great. Since you first made them have you done any variations to them? Any tips you could update with and share?

Looking to save money and give a reason for people to ask questions at the same time! Now unless you use PUL you would need to make a cover with about 1/2 bigger measurements correct?

I also am interested in how these diapers would be waterproof. I’m wanting to start sewing diapers for my babies, but I wonder what to use so they don’t leak…

Order ka na for your baby Bella. :-)
