We are going global
Yes! Guess what’s new with this sleepy little town?
So now we have it here!
I know, I know the title is pretty much exaggerated. It’s just that I am too overwhelmed with this little improvement here in town. We didn’t know about it until we went to Central Warehouse to get some groceries. I was telling Donald since Monday that we really needed to go there because Ella’s goody cabinet and the fridge are bare. We will be the host of the bible study tomorrow afternoon and we have to prepare snacks for the members and since we won’t be having enough time tomorrow to run to the grocery store, we went there after we fetched Ella at school. We are both wanting to nap in the morning but I am glad we are not defeated by our sleepiness. We have been working on his blog for “light years” now and I have come to realize the importance of buying a laptop. We can both work at the same time which is nice and we stayed up until 3am just tweaking his theme yet we are not yet there….still needing lots of work and tons of patience. :-S
It was over a month now that I have been to this grocery store and I noticed then that they are removing everything in their fastfood corner. Well, they should be because the food is disgusting. Cold patty in your burger, still frozen fries in the inside and water that tasted like coke coke that tasted like water (because it has too many ice in it)
I vowed I would never ever eat there again. It was so frustrating to live here where we couldn’t find a decent place with good food when we wanted to dine out. When I saw the men dismantling the tables and chairs last month, I thought the management has decided to turn the area into something that could bring them money. Like putting some more racks so they could at least offer us more choices of groceries, but I was very surprised when Donald blurted out from the trisikad that we were riding that Mang Inasal is in town.
Donald and Ella were there just last week when they bought me some ingredients for leche flan yet they haven’t seen even a hint about the new establishment and so he was sooooo surprised too. he couldn’t believe it and he regret for not bringing the camera. We managed to fill the cart with the things we needed with less fight, less teasing and less noise between him and Ella. He is as crazy as I am in taking photos that I could use to help my few readers to understand my post and spare their brain from imagining life here in the jungle.
so I suggested he could go home and get it while we pay for the groceries and we’ll wait for him at Mang Inasal which is just in the entrance of the building. When he left, Ella and I waited in line just behind the old man who is paying at that time. When it’s our turn, Ella helped me out put the stuffs in the counter while the lady rang the items. After everything has been rang, I handed her three 500 peso bills expecting to finish the transaction in just a couple of minutes but I was wrong. This lousy grocery store has no change!
She left us standing there for a good 10 minutes while she looks for change. She went inside the admin office, stopped at three cashiers and went back to me telling me they have no change. Heler! It’s not my problem. It’s nearing lunchtime yet they ran out of change or I must be right that they don’t have petty cash in their cash registers. I feel blood rushed to my head so I asked her to give me back my money and we will just get the groceries after we have paid for our lunch at Mang Inasal. That worked because I had no problem paying for our lunch because they have just opened for the day. Donald arrived just in time for me to take his order and while waiting for the food, he went to pay for the groceries.

Ella ordered Pinoy Burger, kamote (sweet potato) fries and coke while Donald and I each had “pecho” (chicken breast barbeque), rice and coke. The burger gave Ella a hard time. See?
We are not actually big fans of Mang Inasal. We have been to a couple of their outlets in Davao in just a couple of times too and I find it just fine for their price but since they are the only fastfood here in town that has a “name”, I think we will be fanatics for the time being.
And oh we were the first customers and for that, Ella got a balloon which she actually asked if she could have one.
After had our early lunch, Ella had a couple of ride in those stupid rides. I call it stupid because even when the token was already dropped, the thing won’t budge. Ella has to get down and find one that works, then she crammed her legs on the tiny ride and smiled when it went galloping. After two rides, I asked her to go back to our table and tell Donald that I will be buying nail polish in their department store area. I spent longer there than I thought and Donald went looking for me. He found me at the counter waiting for the lady to ring my purchase and as expected, they again don’t have a change! I almost blurted out…”Go tell your boss to close this business.” but I chose to just zip my mouth and scour my purse for smaller bill, didn’t bother to wait for the change (I think it’s just 5 cents) and walked away.
So Donald couldn’t blame me why I buy groceries in the city each time we go there than waste my time getting what we needed in a lousy store. I say it’s lousy because aside from running out of change almost all the time, expect your bar of chocolates mixed in the bag of shampoos, detergents, bathsoaps and fabric conditioners.

A grocery store that doesn’t have change?! … I have NEVER heard of such a thing! How bizarre is that? … And it’s cool that you were the first customers to the new fast food place!!!!
Our little town only has 2 fast food places… We have a McDonald’s and Subway… Wish we would get a Taco Bell! *lol*
