The day I wore purple nail polish

So I finally made it to the clinic this morning with purple toenails. That was an achievement to me (not on the purple nail polish) because even I already set my mind on getting up early, I still find it sooooo hard to do it. I did my nails last night and since Ella has been putting me into account each time she sees me painting my nails as to why I am still not wearing the purple nail polish she gave to me on my birthday, I decided it was time to show her that I am true to my words that I really love the darn color she picked. I should have cared less if it was a darker plum but it wasn’t and it looks as though they were candies on my feet. But anyway, I gave it a go and I am loving it now and the most important of all is that Ella was so happy about it. :-)

Donald and I were just in time. We were greeted by just stares from the 6 staff. I couldn’t tell who are the midwives or nurses because they were not in uniform and they seem to look the same - like vendors peddling their goods. They are chatting and they don’t seem to care about us like what we’ve experienced the last time we’ve been there. There was one young mother that came ahead of us, waiting for the midwife to call her name. I had no clue how long she’s been there but it took us 30 minutes staring at the tv pretending that we were watching before the young mother was called. So she went to the table and was asked some questions by the midwife while the other 5 went out of the scene. I don’t know if they are off from work. The young mother was scheduled for an anti-tetanus shot too and so she was left there sitting while the midwife ran to the other building (the Health Center) to get a vial of vaccine. So are they suppose to run back and forth to the other building each time they needed vaccine? I don’t mind waiting there but seeing a fridge standing on one side makes me want to ask them why couldn’t they just put vials in the freezer rather than filling it with juices for personal consumption? :-( Anyway, I just sat there beside Donald on the couch saying nothing. I know Donald could not stand waiting for long because he’s is such a sanguine but he just slouched there like a 5-year-old eyes pinned on the monitor. Oh yeah, thanks to Mr. Bean for entertaining him. :-) After some time, another midwife came and so there were two midwives in the clinic but when my name was called by the second midwife, the first one left with a lame reason of needing to go somewhere. I had no clue where the hell that somewhere is. :-( She left and more and more pregnants started coming with only a pair of hands inside that lousy clinic. I was just glad the midwife was nicer than I thought. She’s pregnant too and from our little chit chat, the local government of this town will be laying off the casual employees of the clinic and she’s one of them. There were a total of 8 midwives and nurses in that clinic and only one is a regular employee. I did the math and 7 of them will be laid off. I asked what is the reason behind it and she said the local government couldn’t pay their salaries. So after all these years of receiving salaries that were 2 to 3 months delayed, they will finally be laid off. I felt sorry for them but it would be better that way because I see some of them (or should I say all of them) are slacking on their job. Here’s hoping the one that checked on me could find a better paying clinic somewhere. But then again even if they say they are not receiving salaries on time, they should be doing their job well because we are paying for the services. So now I am crossing out giving birth here in Trento. I’d rather chose to deliver the baby in my hometown if not in one of the big hospitals in Davao.

Wow… Sounds like it’s hard to get good prenatal care there. That’s too bad. :(

This reminded me of when I was pregnant with my two children, my pre-natal care was done at health centers too, but the ones that attended me was really “maalaga”

Sometimes, it also makes me wonder if why our taxes never really get to them. It suppose to work that way.

    Hmm…
