Underwater fridge magnets

This was a long overdue post about the gift that Ella has received from my SIL.

We have already painted the moulded plaster last week but I got so busy blogging for moolah that I forgot about it. So here’s what we did.

Wednesday, the day after we arrived from the reunion at the small farm of my PIL’s, Ella and I started working on the kit. I have to supervise her especially the mixing of the plaster powder.

Donald was the cameraman while I mix the plaster powder. It has no odor at all but Ella needs to cover her nose and mouth to prevent powder inhalation. She’s afraid to die you know.

We need to mix the powder with water as quickly as we can so it won’t harden.

When it reached the paste-like consistency, we filled the moulder with it.

Then carefully we put the magnets in place. Ella was very impatient to get it done.

After 20 minutes it was already ready to unmould but we waited for a good one hour to make sure it won’t break when we try to remove the figures from the moulder. That gave me enough time to finish an interim and one pending task which is actually the real reason of the long wait. ;-) After an hour, we unmoulded it carefully and let it stand for another 3 days to paint it. You could actually paint it right after it’s unmoulded….but you know, I have to make up for the lost time when we went to the farm and I was blessed to have grab one opps after another. So after three long days…..we finally painted it.

I actually did the painting. Such a bad momma. I intended to let Ella do it herself but she’s nervous that it won’t turn out to be like the picture in the box. I asked her if she would want me to do it for her and to my joy, she gladly agreed. ;-) There’s two packets of plaster powder inside the kit and we only have used the first one so she will definitely have the second batch all to herself.

A photo of our craft in the fridge. They looked so cute…how I wish I could find plaster powder in Davao so I could make some more.
