Did I not mention that we have been into managing a local restaurant in my hometown in Kabacan, Cotabato that serves different dishes of African Catfish? That’s after my mother died in 2006 and after venturing different home based businesses. I was studying Medical Transcription then and the father of one of my classmates approached me and Donald if we could manage their dying business. He have seen us sell different stuffs and that is what made him want to make us as their partner. Since we are just relying on making and selling homemade peanut butter at that time and my father’s small investment in cellphone cards has failed, we decided to accept the offer to sustain our needs.
Before we took over the management, we asked them to finance the repainting of the place and purchasing native dishes made of Nito, silverwares and other stuff that are lacking or needs to be replaced to get more customers. They agreed and Donald and I started the work. Painting, organizing and menu planning. It was smooth at first. They finance and we do the work then at the end of the week, we receive our share of the profit. Days and weeks had passed and we noticed that they are taking advantage on us by not giving what is due to us and they aren’t not even that reliant when it comes to supplies. We also had a problem with the owner and his son. I think they have a big attitude problem. They only think of profit and not the quality of service and food. We finally raised the flag and decided we are not managing their business any longer if they won’t raise our share. But that was after a long ordeal of sleepless nights and totally tiring day. When we broke the news to them, they said they will go bankcrupt if will be given more than we are receiving. Hell! I have already did countless computation on the cash inflow and outflow even I have no background in Accounting and business management just to make sure if what we are bringing up is considerably fair. Their decision? they would rent out the place to us so we could get full control of the business at a whooping $300 per month. That was too big for us plus we don’t know where to get starting capital. And so we left.
If I was contemplating on the past, I am pretty sure we could have made it if there were fast and easy bad credit business loans available. This could really help us with running the business independently. With this service, more and more merchants are given hope to hold their doors open for their customers.
