The weatherman said there would be a lot of rain tomorrow which made me think if we should start building an ark now because the rain seemed to last forever. I was still up at half past one in the morning and decided to check emails when the power went off and if I have counted it accurately, we had 15 power interruptions until late this afternoon. Thank goodness it’s freezing cold in here because I’d be dead by morning endless hours of fanning Ella.
Donald said it’s not best to let Ella attend school with this absolutely bad weather so we let her sleep until 9am. When she woke up, I gave her breakfast and we cuddled back in bed until noontime. When I went to have a peek in the window, I saw the shed where we kept the laundry to dry and where the chicken are was flooded so I asked Donald to move the dear chicken in higher ground so they won’t be swimming tonight and catch colds.
While I, Donald and Ella are cuddling, she began singing the song “The Greatest Love of All” by Whitney Houston which she did in her most innocent yet funny way. She sang it in her very own lyrics which made Donald decide to download the song from the internet so she could listen to the lyrics over and over again. We were amazed at how she hit the notes almost accurately and how she imitates Charisse Pempengco’s belting and moves especially the stomping of feet. She also has this bending of back like Pilita Coralles. I will let the photos tell how she internalized the song.

I tell you, she was breathless after singing the song thrice from the very first line until the very end.
Each year during our reunion in my mother’s side, we had videoke session and Ella won’t pass the night without holding the microphone. When she was 2 until she was 4, she sang the same old song Narda which my cousin Clarence taught her. Now I wanted her to sing a new song. So last August, I introduced her to this song and she loves it instantly when I told her it’s Mamang Eling’s favorite.
We had Tinolang Manok for dinner and looking at the chicken we asked Ella again if we could butcher her chicken. They are big enough now but she refused as usual with a different reason this time. She said they are not yet big because they are still white and we have to wait until they get the same color as the neighbor’s chicken. I said those are native chicken and they have brown or black feathers while hers are broilers which would stay white until the end of time. I hope we have convinced her about that because if not, the chicken will probably have alzheimer and would die of old age.
The girl just loves animals that’s why. She wanted to ride a horse and was always asking me when that could be. Even I would love to but there’s no horses around here, only in my father’s hometown where horses are everywhere. I have rode once during summer of 1989 but I can’t let Ella experience it without a support like the english saddles. Well, she’s praying for it since then and was looking forward to going to my father’s hometown.
