Little Carol
Since it’s Saturday, we slept longer until almost 9am. After Ella had her breakfast, I cut her hair using the clipper set that Mama Ingrid sent. I let her watch a movie to keep her sit still but even she sat almost not breathing, I cut it shorter than I planned.

She cried when she saw herself in the mirror but managed to smile in front of the camera. She said she don’t want her classmates to see her new hair because they will tease her. Donald helped me convince her that she looked prettier because she looked like Dora. That made her mad because to her, Dora is not pretty.
Sorry to all the Dora fans out there, she’s just a kid.
To let her forget about her hair, I let her play her new fave game - the Beach Party Craze, but she got madder to see the picture in the game.
Don’t they look like twins?
Glad that she got over with the hair issue but I just can’t help myself from giggling because I see myself in her 21 years ago. I call her “bibingka” (the local term for cake) because of her very round face. Although mine was rounder and plumper when I was her age (because I was born 8 lbs and she’s only 6.6 lbs), I can still see little Carol in her.
Weather was nice and sunny the whole day which makes it great to go out for food shopping. Payday has been just a few days ago but since we paid Ella’s tuition fee and the electric bill (not to mention the internet bill), we don’t have enough to buy all the things we needed. The boxes sent to us saved us because we don’t need to buy milk and snacks for Ella for two weeks. There’s enough for us to get by until payday again.
When we arrived from the market, it was already dark and so I quickly finished arranging all the kitchenwares from Mama Ingrid. I did some cleaning in the kitchen and decided to limit the number of dishes that I will put in the rack. I hid all the stuff that are not used often and rub ALL pieces with baking soda. I could say that baking soda really makes cleaning easier! And I was surprised to read it in my sister’s blog tonight and saw the image of a box of baking soda because I found out that I opened the box the wrong way.
I also tried putting baking soda in the laundry and it works well. We have a very hard water here which makes our white clothes dingy so I did a little research last week in the internet. I put white vinegar to soften the water and added baking soda to enhance the performance of the detergent powder. If only I knew it for beforehand, I could have saved myself from feeling so disappointed each time I fold our dingy clothes.
While we are busy in the kitchen, the “Bibingka” was trying to teach her baby (Carrot) to write on the floor.

When I am finally done in the kitchen, I made the Puto Cheese mix and let it stand for 30 minutes. We had a quick dinner and the work began. Donald, as usual was the one who prepared all the molders and heated water in the steamer. Ella was very impatient to have a piece of it and was constantly asking me if we were done.
It was her favorite and the moment the first batch was laid in the table to cool, she took a piece and insisted that she won’t get scalded. I tell you, she ate it in lightning speed and took another piece!
She have really missed it and it reminded us of Mamang Eling because she would watch Ella while we are making Puto Cheese at night. She would sweetly say to Ella, then two, “Wag mo silang istorbohin Neng kasi gumagawa si Mommy at Daddy mo ng pera…” (Do not disturb your Mommy and Daddy because they are making money.) Even Donald missed Mamang and was talking to Mamang’s picture in the wall while putting each molder in the steamer.
Here’s a photo of our special Puto Cheese.
And here’s my favorite photo of our “Bibingka” right after she had a couple of Puto Cheese. She was over the moon and was beaming all the time.
She feels better now with her hair.
I just hope there would be left for tomorrow’s lunch fellowship. hoping too that Ella will forget about selling blocks. She has been always telling me that if she sells more, she will do a holiday shopping to get us and my sisters and BIL some gifts. She is just the sweetest! I then realized that New Year’s day is coming and yet I still have not saved money to do a little holiday shopping. New Year’s eve is not complete for me without gifts (we don’t celebrate Christmas that’s why). I so wish I could get tons of online tasks so I could get this for my dearest husband.
He is crazy over music and he would really be thrilled to have this. But he knew I couldn’t afford it yet and he’ll be more happy to get chocolates or a big jar of Nutella.
